Galway Kayak Club was originally established in the 1970’s, growing from the Digital Equipment Corp Trailblazers Club to a full kayak club for the city based in the Waterside opposite Galway Rowing Club. The 1980’s were not kind to Ireland or GKC and the club had ceased to exist by 1987. The club was re-formed in 2007, and has gone from strength to strength since. We have packed a lot into our short life so far and continually look to expand our resources and paddling possibilities.
While most of our membership engage with the non-competitive elements of the sport, we also are proud of our many of our members that have represented Ireland at an international level, be it in Canoe Polo, Freestyle, Sprint and even the Paralympics!
Galway Kayak Club is a volunteer run club. We have a large committee that keep the club running, along with the various instructors, coaches, and general helpers that give up their time to get people paddling.
